Haier made its name here on fridges and washing machines. Heat pumps are the quieter part of the range, and it’s a full one, from a single wall unit in a bedroom to a ducted system for the whole house. Haier has owned Fisher & Paykel Appliances since 2012, and in New Zealand it’s Fisher & Paykel Appliances Ltd that imports Haier air conditioners, backs the warranty and runs the service network. The badge on the front is fairly new to heat pumps. The company behind it isn’t.
What Haier heat pumps can you buy in NZ?
The heat pumps sit on a separate site, Haier Home, away from the appliances. The range splits three ways.
Single room. There are three wall units:
- 600 Series QP: the most efficient Haier wall unit for heating, with built-in Wi-Fi and UV Protect, which uses LED UV lights in Health mode to help kill airborne germs.
- 500 Series: the everyday wall unit, with smart control. It meets the requirements for the EECA approved heat pump list.
- Pinnacle: a wall unit with Wi-Fi control through the SmartHQ app and UV Protect.
There’s also a floor console, which won a Red Dot design award in 2025. Fit it on its own, with a skirting board, or recessed into the wall. Its coil is shaped for efficient heating in colder months, and a 10°C heating setting keeps a room from getting too cold overnight or while you’re away. Weighing a console against a wall unit? Our guide to floor console heat pumps explains where each one suits.
Multi room. The Super Match multi-split pairs up to five indoor units with one outdoor unit, sized from 5 to 12.5 kW. Mix wall units, floor consoles, ceiling cassettes and slim ducted units that fit into small bulkheads. Each room gets switched on and set on its own.
Whole of home. The Smart Power ducted systems hide an indoor unit in the ceiling or under the floor, with vents in each room. There’s a high static unit for most homes and a low profile unit for shallow spaces, such as between floors. Wi-Fi and Smart Zone control, which lets you shut off airflow to rooms you’re not using, are optional extras on the ducted range. Our guide to ducted vs high-wall heat pumps helps if you’re torn.
Haier doesn’t sell a dedicated cold-climate model in New Zealand. If you live somewhere frosty, like Central Otago or inland Canterbury, ask your installer to check the heating output at your winter temperatures before you choose a size.

How long is the Haier heat pump warranty?
Five years, for any Haier air conditioner with less than 25 kW of system cooling capacity, which covers every home system. Bigger systems of 25 kW or more get two years, and chillers get one. Haier repairs or replaces the faulty product at no charge, and the warranty runs from the date you bought it.
A few conditions matter:
- It follows the unit, not you. The warranty covers the original buyer, or a later buyer who can show proper title. It doesn’t cover a unit reinstalled anywhere other than where it was first fitted.
- Keep your paperwork. To claim, you need the original proof of purchase, and the technician will ask to see your service and maintenance records.
- Installation counts. Faults from an incorrect installation, an unqualified installer, or an install without the required compliance certificates aren’t covered.
- Where you live counts. Weathering from salt, hail, sun and geothermal sulphur is excluded. That’s worth knowing in Rotorua, and in coastal spots like Napier or New Plymouth. Travel costs aren’t covered either if you’re more than 35 km from a Haier branch or service agent, or outside a main city.
- Consumables aren’t covered. Filters, batteries and refrigerant top-ups are on you.
Your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act sit alongside the warranty and don’t end when it does.
How do you read a Haier model number?
The rating plate carries an indoor and an outdoor model number, and the warranty booklet has spaces for both, plus their serial numbers. Fill them in on the day it goes in.
On Haier’s product listings, wall units start with AS and the floor console with AF. The number that follows is the cooling size, so the 600 Series QP AS25QCFHRA is a 2.5 kW unit and the floor console AF50DBAHRA is 5 kW. Outdoor units start with 1U, such as the 1U25MAFFRA paired with that 600 Series wall unit. A full set is often sold under a code ending in -SET. Copy the whole code when you book a service, not just the first few letters.
How do you control a Haier heat pump from your phone?
Newer Haier units use the SmartHQ app on Apple or Android. Schedule heating, switch the unit on before you get home, and pull up a step-by-step video on cleaning the filter. Home and Away mode uses your phone’s location to set the heat pump as you arrive.
Older units may need a different app. Check your indoor unit for a SmartHQ label. If there’s a label, use SmartHQ. If there isn’t, or your unit isn’t a wall-mounted split, use the SmartAir2 app instead. More on apps and adaptors in our guide to smart heat pumps.
How do you get a Haier heat pump serviced or repaired?
Give your Haier a trial run with clean filters several weeks before each season. Technicians get busy on the first cold or hot days, and an early check gives you time to book before the rush. A maintenance service isn’t part of the warranty, so you pay for it.
When something’s wrong, work through the warranty booklet’s checks first, because a call-out for a fault that isn’t in the product is charged to you:
- the controls are set properly and the remote has working batteries
- the filter is in place and clean
- the unit isn’t simply running its defrost cycle
- nothing blocks the indoor or outdoor unit, and the outdoor coil is free of leaves and dirt
- the drain isn’t blocked
- the louvres aren’t pointing straight down, which can make the unit stop and start.
Still not right? Ring your installer first, since they may want to check their own work before booking a repair. You can also ring Haier Customer Care on 0800 424 372, email customer.care@haier.co.nz, or book a service online and track the technician. Have the model and serial numbers and a short description of the fault ready.
Haier doesn’t publish a list of error codes on its New Zealand site. If a code shows, note it down and pass it on when you book. Our guide to heat pump problems covers the common causes.

How do you find a Haier installer near you?
Haier is a smaller name among New Zealand installers. Of 1,020 installer websites read in October 2026, 59 mention Haier. That’s enough to find one in most regions, and it’s worth asking a few for quotes.
