Daikin doesn’t sell heat pumps off a shelf. Every Daikin in New Zealand goes through a Daikin Specialist Dealer, an independently owned local business that measures up your rooms, installs the unit and looks after it afterwards. That one fact shapes most of what follows, from who you ring when something goes wrong to how a warranty claim runs.
What Daikin heat pumps can you get in New Zealand?
Wall units make up most of the range.
- Alira X: the newest wall unit, 2.2 to 7.1 kW cooling and 2.7 to 8.0 kW heating, with wi-fi built in, a humidity sensor and a sealed electrical design that keeps insects and lizards off the circuit board.
- Alira: Streamer air cleaning to cut pollen, bacteria and mould.
- Zena Vogue: a premium design unit suited to bedrooms.
- Cora, Standard and Lite: Cora for small to large rooms, Standard across a wide spread of sizes, and Lite for smaller spaces.
Floor units come in the Aura floor-standing model. For several rooms, Multi Lite heats two rooms off one outdoor unit and Super Multi NX up to five. The bigger VRV systems run up to 14 rooms in large homes.
Ducted systems include a Slim-line unit for tight ceiling spaces, the Premium FDMA built for modern New Zealand homes, and the Premium Inverter FDYA, which can replace an old R22 ducted system. If you’re weighing up layouts, read ducted vs high-wall and single-room vs multi-room.

How do you read a Daikin model number?
You’ll find the model number on the right side of the indoor unit. The rating plate on the outdoor unit carries two model numbers and a serial number: the outdoor model on top, the indoor model underneath.
On the energy rating register, a typical Daikin wall unit is an FTXM25 indoor with an RXM25 outdoor. Indoor models start with F and outdoor models with R. The number is the cooling size, so 25 is 2.5 kW and 71 is 7.1 kW. The letters at the end mark the generation and version, so copy the full code, not just the first part.
The warranty card has spaces for the outdoor unit, up to four indoor units and the controller, each with a serial number. Ask your installer to fill it in on the day.
Does your Daikin need a free fix?
Daikin New Zealand runs rework programmes for a few models with known faults, and covers the reasonable cost. Two are open.
- CTXJ-T multi wall units (CTXJ25, 35, 50 and 60 TVMA, white or black) paired with a Super Multi NX outdoor unit. In Comfort flow mode with vertical airflow, some rooms can heat up to 30°C. The fix is new software on the circuit board. The unit is safe to use until the fix is done, so just run it in Auto or Heat. Ring the Rework Technical Support Team on 0800 210 010, weekdays 8:30am to 5pm.
- Some Sky ducted units (certain FDYQ, FXDQ and FXMQ models) need the wiring harness on the circuit board swapped, because it doesn’t match the circuit diagram. It doesn’t affect safe running.
If your model isn’t on the list, no rework is needed. If the unit is under five years old, the warranty still applies after the fix, and the replacement part carries its own 12-month warranty.
What does the Daikin warranty cover in NZ?
Five years parts and labour on split, multi-split and ducted systems professionally installed in New Zealand homes. It runs from the date the original owner bought the equipment.
To claim, you need the warranty card and the purchase docket. For a repair, start with your Daikin dealer or installer. If you ask Daikin New Zealand to arrange the call-out and the fault turns out not to be covered, you pay for it.
The warranty doesn’t cover:
- faults from poor installation, or wiring and power supply problems from outside the unit
- weathering and corrosion of the casing and coils
- extra costs for units in hard-to-reach or unsafe spots
- travel outside the area normally covered by Daikin or its repair agents
- units in caravans or boats, and consumables like batteries and filters.
As the owner, you’re expected to clean the filters, keep the outdoor unit clear, keep the drain clean and add corrosion protection if the unit sits in sea air or near industry. That last one matters in places like Paraparaumu, Timaru and the Coromandel.

Can you reuse the old pipework when you swap in a Daikin?
Plan on new pipework. In most cases the piping and cable from an old unit can’t be reused with a new Daikin, because systems differ in pipe sizes and electrical needs. Install length matters too: pipe runs shorter than the minimum can cause noise, vibration and poor performance, and problems from installs that don’t follow the manual aren’t covered. Replacing a heat pump covers the repair-or-replace call.
Can you control a Daikin from your phone?
Daikin wall units are run from the Daikin Mobile Controller app. The Alira X has wi-fi built in, on the 2.4 GHz band only. Other compatible wall units need a WLAN adaptor (BRP072A42 for split systems). One phone can control up to ten indoor units, grouped so you can turn them on or off together. If you’d rather have a single panel on the wall for several split systems, a wired central controller does that. Smart heat pumps covers the rest of the options.
How often does a Daikin need servicing?
Have a qualified technician check it once a year, before winter or summer sets in, and keep the filters clean in between. Many Daikin units also carry a Titanium Apatite and Enzyme Blue deodorising filter behind the main filter: clean it every six months and replace it every three years. The full routine is in the heat pump servicing guide.
Finding someone is easy. Of the 1,020 installer websites we read, 224 mention Daikin, second only to Mitsubishi. The Daikin dealer directory finds appointed dealers by postcode and distance. Your installing dealer is the first call for service, and Daikin’s after-sales team backs them up by phone.
