What does a heat pump cost to install in Invercargill?
A standard back-to-back install is the simplest job to quote. The indoor unit goes on a wall inside, the outdoor unit sits on the other side of that same wall, and the pipe run between them is short. The unit, pipework, labour and electrical connection are all in.
Match the unit to the room. A small high wall of about 2.5 kW suits a bedroom, a medium unit of about 5 kW suits a lounge, a large unit of about 8 kW suits open-plan living, and ducted covers the whole house. Read heat pump sizing before you settle on a model.
Read the energy label, not the headline figure. It shows heating at 7°C and 2°C outside, and cooling at 35°C, so compare quotes on the same numbers. Frosts can occur anywhere in New Zealand, and inland and southern towns see colder winters.
What pushes a heat pump quote up or down?
Two installs of the same unit can land at different ends of a range, and the difference is nearly always the job rather than the hardware. A short pipe run, easy access and a plain wall keep a quote lean.
Ask for the extras to be itemised, so two quotes that sound alike can be compared once the pipe runs and electrical work are spelled out.
- A longer pipe run between the indoor and outdoor units
- Awkward access or height for the outdoor unit
- A wall that needs a bracket, or a floor-level pad
- Extra electrical work, such as a new circuit or a switchboard upgrade
- Removing an old unit
- A larger unit, or a ducted system rather than a single split
How do Invercargill's installers compare?
Fifteen heat pump installers are listed for the city, and plenty of them come to the trade through refrigeration, farming or electrical work rather than heating alone. Eight say they give free quotes, which is the simplest way to test a firm before you commit.
Four say they fit ducted systems and 3 mention multi-room setups. Weigh ducted and high wall heat pumps and single and multi-room systems before you choose.
Aftercare is covered. Twelve say they service heat pumps and 6 mention repairs, and the heat pump servicing guide explains what a visit involves.
Winton is the nearest place listed alongside the city, and no nearby town offers a bigger field, so the choice sits in Invercargill. If you live outside the city, say so when you ask for a quote.
Ways to pay for a heat pump in Invercargill
One of the town's installers mentions finance, so payment plans are not the default. If spreading the cost matters, ask each firm directly and compare the terms in writing.
One installer mentions Warmer Kiwi Homes. The EECA scheme funds heat pumps for eligible owner-occupiers, and eligibility depends on holding a Community Services Card or a SuperGold Combo Card, or on living in a qualifying area. The heat pump grants guide sets out the criteria.
A quote must not mislead under the Fair Trading Act, hidden costs included. Where no price is fixed in advance, the Consumer Guarantees Act means you pay only a reasonable price.
